Learning Together: Achievement Center Attends SAIS Conference
A team representing the CCES Achievement Center recently attended the SAIS Academic Support Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Our dedicated AC educators seized the opportunity to engage with professionals in student academic support from independent schools across the southeast. The conference welcomed classroom teachers, learning specialists, and academic support directors, offering a platform to explore research, curriculum innovations, effective instructional strategies, and exemplary practices aimed at nurturing all learners within an independent school setting.
This year, four members of our Achievement Center staff took the lead in facilitating breakout sessions!
- Page Sullivan, our Middle School Learning Specialist, hosted a session entitled "Learning Plans that Benefit All.” Page delved into strategies for crafting student learning plans that offer meaningful structure and purpose, benefiting students, parents, and faculty alike.
- Hagen Carmichael, our Upper School Learning Specialist, along with Maggie Simms, our Middle School Learning Specialist, collaborated on a session titled "Fostering Support Across Middle and Upper School Programs.” Hagen and Maggie discussed empowering students with essential problem-solving and self-advocacy skills to navigate a demanding curriculum.
- Lane Abrams, Director of the Achievement Center, led a session titled "Guiding Students with Learning Differences through the College Transition.” Lane shared valuable insights into CCES's approach to supporting students with learning differences (and their parents) as they transition to the next phase of their educational journey.
While our AC team members were leaders at the conference, they were also learners and have returned to CCES energized, excited, and even more equipped to serve all of our students effectively.
